It would have originally been a button hook to fasten shoes. It's quite long and would be ideal to use to fasten hard to reach buttons or as a zipper puller. It's a lovely collectors item.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe handle is made of Solid Silver and has a very pretty design to it. The hook is made of carbon steel and has Steel imprinted on the side of it. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe makers mark and Hallmarks are a bit worn but it was made by Deakin and Francis and Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1897.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Silver handle is shiny with a bit of patina which helps to show the beautiful design. There's a slight gap on one side of the handle where the Silver meets the steel but it is secure.
